兩年後，於2006年發行的《Define The Great Line》專輯，Underoath捨棄了上一張專輯較多的流行旋律，開始嘗試較重的旋律和更多的電子元素在歌曲內，再搭配上Post‐metal樂風的段落。音樂網站 Sputnikmusic將這張專輯的樂風解釋為一種新的Metalcore，並帶有Post‐metal的旋律和電子音效，Allmusic音樂網站說這張專輯的樂風是在兇狠殘暴的Grindcore和猶如My Chemical Romance/ From Autumn to Ashes式的Emo間靈巧的轉換著；《Define The Great Line》在美國告示排行榜獲得第二名的佳績，並成為自1997年後獲得最高名次的福音音樂專輯。
Underoath貝斯手Grant Brandell也曾經在MusicFaith.com福音音樂網站的訪問中談到 “Writing On The Walls”的MV內容:
這個MV基本上是個殺人疑雲，一對男女非常深愛著對方，但女生的父親卻硬生將兩人拆散， 然後裡面有個看似精神非常不穩定的男人，這個角色會讓你覺得他就是殺人兇手，但直到影片的尾聲，從那個小男孩的眼神，也許你可以體會到一些其他的東西...。

“this run down place”指的應該是人世，因為在人世間有太多的暴行和不完美的地方。“the gap”應該是在說明自己的肉體將他的靈魂和神分離開了，而我們的肉體只能意識到一些片段，其餘都是潛意識。接著 "I'm short on time”應該是在說他知道在不久的某一天他將死去，而他僅有所剩不多的時間能把他的人生拉回正途。

他在質問人們為何要活在其他人的觀念和言語之下，卻不活在神的旨意下。這裡的”home”，應該是指天堂，和如何才能抵達天堂。接著他祈禱說希望其他人能走出這些錯誤的人生，去尋找一個真正喜樂美好的生活方式。

當人們試著要回歸到神旨意下的生活，他認為人們怎麼會改變的那麼慢，甚至是來不及，但他覺得盡管如此。他不能坐視不顧。而他也曾經說過和做過許多不敬畏神的事情，但現在他希望能將這些都除去，並希望神的聖靈能一直充滿著他，直到他回歸到神旨意的生活裡。
"We will walk alone, back home."
在人生中，我們常常是一個人，而有時我們也是自己獨斷去想去做一些事情，而沒有尋求神的旨意或幫助。
“back home”應該是指說回到天國，因為當我們來到人間時，是一個人來的，死去的時候也是一樣的。

這裡可能是在說這個人他自己，或是在說他的一個朋友，遠離神的旨意。 假如是他自己在和神說話，他覺得他只能看見一些神的蹤跡或指示，但卻無法真正的遇見神；假如他是在說他的一個朋友，那麼這個朋友可能是一個從好朋友，因為一些緣故卻變成一個僅只是互相認識的人，而他無法感受到神的存在或這個朋友的存在。

他希望神再度降臨在他或他和他的朋友之間，他希望神能聽見他的禱告，或是他希望他的朋友能聽見他為他們兩個所作的禱告。
"I know there must be some way out of here and all of them will be waiting here."
Lyrically this is my favorite part and kinda gives me goosebumps. I am almost positive he means that there has to be a way out of this world as in death can't be the end. And all the love ones that he has lost along the way will be waiting for him in heaven.
這裡的意思為他知道有種離開人世方式是勝過死亡的（因為相信耶穌的人，死後就獲得永生上天堂, 在基督教裡，這個離開人世的方式就如同耶穌基督一般，被認為是勝過死亡的一個表現）。
而所有他所愛的人都將會在天國等著他。
